📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
This tool helps you design and analyze BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor) amplifier circuits:
- Forward Mode: Enter resistor values to calculate Q-point and visualize load line
- Reverse Mode: Enter desired Q-point to calculate required resistor values
- AC Gain: Calculate voltage gain, input/output impedance for small-signal amplifiers
🔌 Common Emitter Configuration
This calculator analyzes the voltage divider bias configuration:
- R1: Upper voltage divider resistor (base to VCC)
- R2: Lower voltage divider resistor (base to GND)
- RC: Collector resistor (limits IC and sets VCE)
- RE: Emitter resistor (provides stability and sets IE)
- β (hFE): Transistor current gain (typically 100-300)
📐 Q-Point (Operating Point)
The Q-point (Quiescent point) defines where the transistor operates at rest:
- ICQ: Collector current at rest (typically mid-range for amplifiers)
- VCEQ: Collector-Emitter voltage at rest (typically VCC/2 for maximum swing)
💡 Tip: For maximum undistorted output, set VCEQ ≈ VCC/2
📊 Load Line Analysis
The DC Load Line shows all possible operating points:
- Cutoff: IC = 0, VCE = VCC (transistor off)
- Saturation: VCE ≈ 0, IC = VCC/(RC+RE) (transistor fully on)
- Q-Point: The actual operating point (marked on the graph)
⚠️ Warning: If Q-point is too close to cutoff or saturation, signal clipping will occur
🎛️ AC Gain Parameters
Small-signal analysis for AC amplification:
- re (AC emitter resistance): 25mV / IE (at room temperature)
- AV (Voltage Gain): -RC / RE (with bypass capacitor: -RC / re)
- Zin (Input Impedance): R1 || R2 || (β × RE)
- Zout (Output Impedance): ≈ RC
