📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
This tool helps you plan and analyze IP subnets for network configuration. Enter an IP address and CIDR notation to calculate all subnet properties.
📝 Input Format
- IP Address: Enter in dotted-decimal notation (e.g., 192.168.1.0)
- CIDR Notation: Slash followed by prefix length (e.g., /24 for 255.255.255.0)
- Alternative: Use the slider to select common subnet masks
🔍 What You'll See
- Network Address: The first address in the subnet (not usable for hosts)
- Broadcast Address: The last address in the subnet (not usable for hosts)
- Usable Host Range: The range of assignable IP addresses
- Total Hosts: Number of possible addresses and usable host addresses
- Binary Visualization: See how the subnet mask divides network and host portions
💡 Understanding Subnets
- Network Portion: Bits set to 1 in the subnet mask identify the network
- Host Portion: Bits set to 0 in the subnet mask identify individual hosts
- Unusable IPs: Network address (all host bits = 0) and broadcast address (all host bits = 1) cannot be assigned to devices
- CIDR /24: Most common for small networks (254 usable hosts)
- CIDR /30: Common for point-to-point links (2 usable hosts)
