📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
This calculator works both ways:
- Colors to Resistance: Select colors from the dropdowns to decode a resistor's value
- Resistance to Colors: Enter a resistance value and tolerance to find the color code
Choose between 4-band (standard) and 5-band (precision) resistors using the band selector.
🌈 Color Code System
4-Band Resistors: Band1 (1st digit) + Band2 (2nd digit) + Band3 (multiplier) + Band4 (tolerance)
5-Band Resistors: Band1 (1st digit) + Band2 (2nd digit) + Band3 (3rd digit) + Band4 (multiplier) + Band5 (tolerance)
Color Values:
- Black = 0, Brown = 1, Red = 2, Orange = 3, Yellow = 4
- Green = 5, Blue = 6, Violet = 7, Grey = 8, White = 9
📐 Tolerance Values
- Brown: ±1% (precision)
- Red: ±2%
- Green: ±0.5% (high precision)
- Blue: ±0.25% (ultra precision)
- Violet: ±0.1% (ultra precision)
- Gold: ±5% (standard)
- Silver: ±10%
- None: ±20% (4-band only)
💡 Tips
- The visual resistor updates in real-time as you change values
- In reverse mode, the calculator finds the closest standard E-series value
- Gold and Silver bands can only be used as multipliers (×0.1, ×0.01) or tolerance
- 5-band resistors provide one extra digit of precision
