📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
This visualizer shows how different modulation schemes affect both the time-domain waveform and the frequency-domain spectrum.
- Time Domain (Top): Shows the actual modulated waveform as it changes over time
- Frequency Domain (Bottom): Shows the carrier and sideband frequencies in the spectrum
📊 Modulation Types
- AM (Amplitude Modulation): The amplitude of the carrier varies with the message signal. Watch for overmodulation when index > 1.0!
- FM (Frequency Modulation): The frequency of the carrier varies with the message signal. Higher index creates more sidebands.
- PM (Phase Modulation): The phase of the carrier varies with the message signal. Similar spectrum to FM but different time behavior.
🔧 Key Parameters
- Modulation Index: Controls the depth of modulation. Try values > 1.0 to see overmodulation effects.
- Carrier Frequency: The base frequency being modulated (shown in blue/center in frequency domain).
- Message Frequency: The information signal frequency (spacing between sidebands).
💡 What to Look For
- AM Overmodulation: When index > 1.0, the carrier crosses zero—this causes distortion!
- FM Sidebands: Higher modulation index creates more sideband pairs in the spectrum.
- Bandwidth: FM and PM use more bandwidth than AM for the same message frequency.
