📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
1. Select Variables: Choose 2, 3, or 4 variables for your K-map.
2. Fill the Map: Click cells to toggle between 0 (false), 1 (true), and X (don't care).
3. See Results: The tool automatically finds prime implicants and displays the minimized expression.
📐 Gray Code Ordering
K-maps use Gray code ordering (00, 01, 11, 10) so adjacent cells differ by only one bit. This is crucial for identifying valid groupings.
- 2 variables: 2×2 grid (4 cells)
- 3 variables: 2×4 grid (8 cells)
- 4 variables: 4×4 grid (16 cells)
🔵 Visual Groupings
The tool highlights groupings (prime implicants) with colored rectangles. Valid groupings must:
- Contain only 1s and Xs (don't cares)
- Be rectangular in shape
- Have sizes that are powers of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16)
- Wrap around edges (the map is toroidal)
💡 Tips
- Don't Care (X): Use these for undefined outputs to get simpler expressions
- Prime Implicants: The largest possible groupings that cover all 1s
- Essential Prime Implicants: Groupings that are the only ones covering certain 1s
