📖 How to Use
🎯 Getting Started
This tool has two powerful modes:
- Converter Mode: Convert numbers between different number systems (Binary, Decimal, Hexadecimal, Octal, BCD, ASCII)
- Binary Calculator Mode: Perform arithmetic operations on binary numbers with step-by-step explanations
🔄 Converter Mode
- Enter a number: Type a value in any base field - all other bases update automatically
- Decimal: Standard numbers (0-9)
- Binary: Only 0s and 1s
- Hexadecimal: 0-9, A-F (prefix 0x optional)
- Octal: 0-7 digits
- BCD: 4 bits per decimal digit (spaces optional)
- ASCII: Single character (shows character code)
- Bit Width Selector: Choose display width (4, 8, 16, or 32 bits)
- Affects binary display and sign interpretation
- Larger numbers automatically expand to fit
- Binary Visualization: Interactive bit display shows each bit position
- Click individual bits to toggle them on/off
- High bits (1) shown in purple, low bits (0) in gray
- Bit positions labeled for easy reference
- Signed vs Unsigned: View both interpretations
- Signed: 2's complement representation (negative numbers supported)
- Unsigned: Always positive values
- Clear All: Reset all fields to zero
🧮 Binary Calculator Mode
- Enter Operands: Type values in decimal, binary, or hexadecimal format
- Each operand has three input fields - all stay synchronized
- Binary accepts only 0s and 1s
- Hexadecimal supports 0x prefix
- Select Operation: Choose from:
- Addition (+)
- Subtraction (-) using 2's complement
- Multiplication (×)
- Bit Width: Select operation size (4, 8, 16, or 32 bits)
- Determines result range and overflow detection
- Affects carry/borrow calculation
- Show Detailed Steps: Toggle checkbox to see:
- Binary representation alignment
- 2's complement conversion (for subtraction)
- Bit-by-bit operation
- Carry/borrow propagation
- Overflow detection
- Results Display: Shows answer in three formats
- Decimal (signed value)
- Binary (with bit positions)
- Hexadecimal
- Overflow and carry/borrow flags
💡 Tips
- BCD format: Enter as groups of 4 bits per decimal digit (e.g., "0010 0101 0101" for 255)
- Negative numbers in binary use 2's complement representation
- Overflow occurs when the result exceeds the bit width's maximum value
- Use step-by-step mode to learn binary arithmetic operations
- The visual binary display is interactive - click bits to manually set values
Example: 255, 42, 1024
Example: 11111111, 101010
Example: FF, 2A, 0x400
Example: 377, 52, 2000
Example: 0010 0101 0101 (255)
Example: A, z, @
